Camino del Norte Final day

The final stretch from Pendueles to Llanes.

We stayed in a house in the village of Pendueles. The rooms were all ensuite and well appointed, the garden very pleasant but although there was a kettle, microwave and toaster downstairs in the kitchen-cum-dining room there was no sink or dishwasher and when we tried to eat the breakfast that we had brought we found the only cutlery was a multitude of mini forks: Bizarre.

Dinner was in the local bar. We left at nine thirty as the bar was filling up, Pendueles village life was bit too exciting for us.

The same bar was supposed to open at 7am the following day but wasn't open by nine. We had to go elsewhere for coffee. Asking a local resulted in directions to Santiago del Compostela, but fortunately around the next corner there was a very nice cafe. The walk could begin.

It's a beautiful stretch of coastline - we walked with the Picos on one side, the sea on the other. The path took us through areas like rocky moorland with cows and sheep, wonderful wild flowers, butterflies and moths and then areas of woodland that offered welcome shade. Views of the sea kept appearing. It was a lovely walk and on the whole my feet behaved.

At Los Bufones de Arenillas on the top of the cliff, we were supposed  to see the sea shooting 20metres into the air from sink holes connected to caves below. The noise was thunderous and disturbing but no water appeared, the tide was wrong or something.  As you may expect I didn’t go within 50metres of the edge, I’m not risking falling down any more mountains.

I am so pleased that I walked and finished with the others.  It hasn't quite gone as planned but it has been great fun.

A glass of cider and a final meal together before going our separate ways...
