A Tourist in Torino

What a fabulous city! The four hour train journey taking us from Ventimiglia to Torino passed quickly in spite of the rather uninspiring scenery and pouring rain (which blotted out any possibility of a view of the mountains as we arrived). Our little group of five old(ish) ladies were deposited at the imposing Torino Porto Nuova railway station in the centre of the city.
The rain had stopped by the next morning but I certainly noticed the difference in temperature and missed the Mediterranean sunshine we'd left behind in Menton

We got our bearings and an overall impression of the city from the top of a bus. A very positive impression of a planned, cared for city with wide streets, tall elegant buildings, miles of arcades lined with shops, cafes and restaurants offering temptations of all kinds; museums, open spaces, parks and squares. Something for everyone.

Food and drink is an essential part of any trip and the restaurants we visited offered delicious Piedmontese food and wine. Any guide book will describe this beautiful city better than I can. Better still, go and look for yourself.

The main reason for the visit was the Egyptian museum, which didn't disappoint, with mind boggling array of artefacts, displayed well and explained by a very knowledgeable guide.

This trip came at the end of a hectic month, but a friend, who has just moved into an apartment in my building, has had a much busier time. The only help I was able to offer (apart from washing up liquid and soup when requested) was my access to the local déchèterie (tip) involving two trips on a truck with mezzanines that had been removed from the two bedrooms and all the other 'stuff' that had been left when the previous owner incompletely emptied the property.

I have been concentrating on getting my next book, HIDDEN 2in shape and am happy with the way it is going. It's still on track for early 2026
Florence is never going to be a private investigator but she certainly finds mysteries to unravel and problems to solve!
