The launch of Hidden Book 2 in St John's English Library in Menton was a resounding success, thanks to the lovely audience who came in such numbers that it was standing room only. The talk and readings were well received and the comments and questions were positive and pertinent. I sold all the books I had and took orders for more. I was quite overwhelmed by it all (and delighted when people have come up to me since and told me that they are already enjoying reading it.)


I am writing this waiting for a breakdown truck to take my car to the garage. The battery is flat and in spite of being on charge all night, still only responds to the turn of the ignition key with a click. It would perhaps seem more logical to bring  a new battery to the car but who am I to question the idiosyncrasies of car mechanics? I am just delighted that the garage answered my call at 8am and arranged a pick up for 10am. In future I suppose I will have to use the car more than just weekly supermarket trips to prevent this happening again, perhaps venture onto the autoroute on a regular basis to IKEA? Open Troc? Cannes...  The world is my oyster.

The garden is waking up and I've already gathered enough kumquats to make some chutney. I've added some roses to the garden, I'm not sure how they will fare so close to the new banana tree but I'll keep you updated.








I imagine that I will be working in the garden this Easter Weekend. 🐣

I took a little piece of France when I visited England recently and read these books. I can't imagine why I haven't read Voltaire and Maupassant before, I'll certainly be reading them again.

It's May, the beaches are being tarted up for summer visitors, roadworks along Les Sablettes are nearing completion and I have collected my carte de séjour and posted my first tax return . I've decided to call the weeds in the garden wild flowers and let them have their way. With all the rain last month and now warm sunshine everything is going a little mad. Snow-shoe walking, Preparations and Progress

What a wonderful way to put January behind me. I spent the weekend in Gréolières with a lovely group of people snowshoe walking , hiking, practicing yoga and meditation, with a quick peak at the fabulous snow moon through a telescope. https://consciousyogi.net Snowshoe walking was a new experience for me. It was a challenge but the raquettes de neige gave me the confidence to walk in the snow without sinking or sliding. It was tough, especially getting to the mountain top but with rest of the French alps behind us, the view that we were rewarded with of the sea, Cannes and Nice   made every step worthwhile.   To me, unused to snow and mountains, it was like walking in a film set. A moment's meditation on the mountain felt very special. The yoga when we returned to our accommodation was almost a step too far, my muscles not wanting to obey but the stretching and movement left me relaxed and ready for an excellent, well earned meal.  https://www.la-maison-du-loup.com ...

Clear air, clear mind

During a brief stay in the mountains of Piedmont, I woke each morning with words and ideas whirling round my mind begging to be recorded  The trip was at the end of a wonderful but very busy summer with no space in my head for anything creative,  Walking along the Tanaro river to the sound of the water, amongst butterflies, birds and bees, my mind cleared and when I got back to my laptop a thousand words appeared on the page. A thousand words nearer my finished novel. We were in Ormea, a town in the province of Cuneo, quiet, friendly and cautiously welcoming. I suspect that in the summer it is much busier with cyclists and walkers exploring the area.  Mid September the hotel San Carlo was full of motorcyclists whizzing through and fishermen taking a more contemplative break.  Via Roma off the main square in Ormea is cobbled and lined with wheel smoothed cart tracks and is bordered by multiple minuscule shops .  The food, pharmacy and clothes shops I understood b...
